Sterling Kalogeras: Grade 7

On Sunday, February 12, 2017, the Buckley Country Day School 7th Grade Community Service Club visited Atria Glen Cove, an assisted living community. Before their visit, on Friday and Saturday, the club members split up into two groups and baked various goods. Club members Adrienne Chacon, Kimberly Schleimer, Meghan Barr, Charlotte Fox, and Sterling Kalogeras went to the facility. They served chocolate chip cookies, brownies, brookies (half chocolate chip cookie, half brownie), shortbread, gingerbread cookies, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. After this, the members sat down and talked to some of the seniors living there. Then they sat down as a panel and told everyone about themselves, and also about the club and, of course, Buckley. The seniors afterward got the chance to ask any questions they had.

The 7th Grade Community Service Club was organized by Charlotte Fox and Sterling Kalogeras. Kalogeras has organized two Shoes For All [LINK] shoe drives at Buckley in the past two years. The club was created to do nice things for the community and to help people in need while having fun. It was founded in late December with three members, but it grew to have 11 in about two months. Their goal is to organize a fundraiser or an event about once a month. The club sometimes meets after school, but it also meets at recess and during study halls.

This was the group’s first project as a club, and it definitely was successful. This event took almost three months to plan, but it was surely worth it. The club will be holding one to four fundraisers here at Buckley. For now, the 7th Grade Community Service Club is in the process of planning its next event.
