His Name In Lights: Maxwell Brown Takes The Stage

While stars such as Drake and Rihanna have taken the headlines by storm, Buckley Country Day School has its own rising star in its midst. Eighth-grader Maxwell Brown is a singer, actor, and musician – a triple threat. He has entered many contests involving the use of his talents, and he has appeared in several plays. Brown dedicates seven to eight hours a week building his acting and singing career, and in addition to practicing during the school week, he has also attended programs such as the Interlochen Center for the Arts. This is “a prestigious camp where I practiced my craft in musical theater,” explained Brown. He has said that he is dedicated to improving his skills and making it to the top.

On Thursday, April 20, 2017, at 6:15 p.m., Buckley’s first-ever Open Mic Night took place. The idea of dedicating an evening when students could come together to share their talents was designed by French and Drama teacher Mrs. Dianna Baritot. A total of nine acts performed throughout the night. There was a variety of talent, from singing to improvisation and to even a magic show.

Field Day is an annual competition that takes place at the end of the school year at Buckley Country Day School. Every year, the students at the school are separated into two teams, Red and Blue. All first graders and any older, new students are given their teams. On this important day, students take part in many different running, throwing, and jumping races. On Wednesday, May 10, 2017, the annual Festival Of The Arts took place at Buckley to appreciate and celebrate the visual and performing arts. Throughout the year, students from first through eighth grade prepared to present their accomplishments. Then, on this evening, the Lower School students displayed the artwork throughout the building. The Upper Schoolers performed various numbers that they had learned in their electives. These performances consisted of band, percussion, chorus, and various dance numbers.

Brandon Anderson: Grade 8

The Flash is a television show that airs every Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. on The CW. The show is about a man name Barry Allen who was affected by an accident caused by a particle accelerator explosion. This mechanism caused Allen to acquire a startling amount of speed, from being able to run at mach speed to having his wounds heal incredibly quickly. The particle accelerator drastically affected his life, turning him into a potential “superhero.” In the present-day storyling, Allen works with his family and his friends from Star Labs to fight antagonists who threat his home of Central City. After seven months, The Flash is coming to the end of its third season, and the battle between Allen and the villain Savitar is heating up. Will the impossible man be able to beat the god of speed?
