On September 9, 2015, the Buckley school year began. As they do every year, the eighth grade directed the opening assembly on the first day. This assembly is not only a way to welcome old students into the new year, but it is also a way to welcome new students into the school by giving them a gift related to the theme of the assembly to commemorate their entry into Buckley. This theme is decided by the eighth grade at their grade-level barbecue before school begins.

Q: What’s your favorite part of teaching?
A: That I get to learn from students everyday. I see ideas that I didn’t even consider or think about, and I also love that I get to shape the future. I see it everyday with my own eyes. I get to see student’s success everyday. I also feel like when they finish a problem they feel like, “Oh, I can do it now!”

Loki and Thor are both prominent characters in this story, but they do not appear in either a green jumpsuit with horns or a metal suit with boots. Rick Riordan delves deep into Norse mythology, while adding a light sense of humor that appeals to all age groups.

They then drew 0-0 with Manchester United in the derby, and beat Norwich a week later on a late penalty from Yaya Toure. However, two of their key players, Aguero and David Silva, picked up injuries during the intentional break.Read More »

Speeches are read to the entire school during a Friday assembly, which family and friends of the eighth graders are invited to attend. This not only gives them a chance to offer the Buckley community an insight into who they are, but it also gives them a taste of real-life public speaking.Read More »
