October Happenings In The BPL

Teddy Brita: Grade 8

This month saw Manchester City retain their spot at the top of the table, with a 6-1 smashing of Newcastle on October 3 that saw Sergio Aguero score five goals in 20 minutes and with a 5-1 trouncing of Bournemouth the next weekend that saw Raheem Sterling score three and Wilfried Bony score two. They then drew 0-0 with Manchester United in the derby, and beat Norwich a week later on a late penalty from Yaya Toure. However, two of their key players, Aguero and David Silva, picked up injuries during the intentional break.

Arsenal has surged to second in the league, with a 3-0 victory over Manchester United and another 3-0 win over Watford. They then beat Everton 2-1 and Swansea 3-0. However, Ramsey was injured on international duty for Wales, and both Walcott and Chamberlain were injured in the league cup.

Both Manchester City and Arsenal look like they will truly be challenging for the title this year. Manchester United suffered a defeat at Arsenal, but responded well with a 3-0 away victory over Everton. They then drew City and Crystal Palace 0-0. Chelsea suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Southampton that saw them drop to 16th place, but they then got an ugly 2-0 over Aston Villa at home which saw them rise to 11th. However, they were then handed a 3-1 loss by Liverpool at home, which saw them move back to 16th again. At the end of the month, Manchester City were in first, with Arsenal two points behind in second, United in third, and Chelsea quickly becoming accustomed to the bottom half of the table.
