For seventh- and eighth-graders, the end-of-year final exams take place the week after Memorial Day. The students take one test for each core academic subject. Each exam has a duration of 90 minutes, and there are two assigned tests on each day. Many students often question their methods of studying and at times can feel overwhelmed with so much material. Here are some tips on how to study for any end-of-year exam:
While stars such as Drake and Rihanna have taken the headlines by storm, Buckley Country Day School has its own rising star in its midst. Eighth-grader Maxwell Brown is a singer, actor, and musician – a triple threat. He has entered many contests involving the use of his talents, and he has appeared in several plays. Brown dedicates seven to eight hours a week building his acting and singing career, and in addition to practicing during the school week, he has also attended programs such as the Interlochen Center for the Arts. This is “a prestigious camp where I practiced my craft in musical theater,” explained Brown. He has said that he is dedicated to improving his skills and making it to the top.
On Thursday, April 20, 2017, at 6:15 p.m., Buckley’s first-ever Open Mic Night took place. The idea of dedicating an evening when students could come together to share their talents was designed by French and Drama teacher Mrs. Dianna Baritot. A total of nine acts performed throughout the night. There was a variety of talent, from singing to improvisation and to even a magic show.
Cooking is a lot of fun. So is baking, but I am not really very good at it. It is hard to prepare homemade muffins or freshly baked cakes. While it’s fun to do this once in a while, for amateurs (like me), it is okay to start off with baking mixes. This can get very boring, however, so here are my “piece of cake” tips and tricks to enhance your baked goods:
On Friday, May 12, 2017, Buckley Country Day School held its annual Grandparents’ And Special Friends’ Day. This cherished day is an occasion to welcome all grandparents and special friends into the Buckley community. It is also a chance for the visitors to compare their own days in school years past to our current experiences in our contemporary Buckley day.
Field Day is an annual competition that takes place at the end of the school year at Buckley Country Day School. Every year, the students at the school are separated into two teams, Red and Blue. All first graders and any older, new students are given their teams. On this important day, students take part in many different running, throwing, and jumping races. This year’s Field Day is coming up on June 2, 2017.
On Wednesday, May 10, 2017, the annual Festival Of The Arts took place at Buckley to appreciate and celebrate the visual and performing arts. Throughout the year, students from first through eighth grade prepared to present their accomplishments. Then, on this evening, the Lower School students displayed the artwork throughout the building. The Upper Schoolers performed various numbers that they had learned in their electives. These performances consisted of band, percussion, chorus, and various dance numbers.
The Flash is a television show that airs every Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. on The CW. The show is about a man name Barry Allen who was affected by an accident caused by a particle accelerator explosion. This mechanism caused Allen to acquire a startling amount of speed, from being able to run at mach speed to having his wounds heal incredibly quickly. The particle accelerator drastically affected his life, turning him into a potential “superhero.” In the present-day storyling, Allen works with his family and his friends from Star Labs to fight antagonists who threat his home of Central City. After seven months, The Flash is coming to the end of its third season, and the battle between Allen and the villain Savitar is heating up. Will the impossible man be able to beat the god of speed?
Last year, Nike introduced the Hyperadapts. These are laceless sneakers with an automatic sensor and a button to adjust the fit of the shoe to one’s foot. It was based on the high-top sneaker featured in Back to the Future Part II. Nike originally let out a draw for this sneaker in 2015.
This winter, Buckley introduced two new fundraisers to its community: a coin drive and a pajama drive. For these efforts, two new additions were made available for each homeroom: a giant water jug and a cardboard box. The jug will hopefully be filled each morning with coins by the members of each homeroom. At the end of the drive, the homeroom with the most coins will win a free dress down day. The box is there to collect pajamas. The homeroom with the most pajamas will win a desert day. All of the money and goods earned from the two fundraisers will go into helping kids in need.
