Max Lunievicz: Grade 8

Friday, September 25, was Spirit Day at Buckley! Students were given the opportunity to wear either a shirt and/or accessory of the color of their team to represent their team spirit. This enthusiasm was clearly shown in the Spirit Assembly, which accepts new students into the Red or Blue team. In addition, team spirit was shown through the annual Red/Blue cheer, where eighth-grade team captains teach their team a song with lyrics replaced by Field Day-related words. This year, the Red team’s song was based off of “Cheerleader” by Omi, and the Blue team’s song was based off of “Drag Me Down” by One Direction.Read More »

On November 17, 2014, the students performed the annual Thanksgiving Assembly. The dance team performed a piece to the song, “Peace.” This dance symbolized respect.

​Early this fall, the Upper School heard speeches by seventh-grade students running for the Student Executive Council. What is Student Executive Council? It is composed of elected students who are chosen to promote ideas and inform their grade or the school about events and dances if the co-presidents cannot.

Every year the Buckley Country Day Upper School takes a bonding trip to Club Getaway in Kent, Connecticut. It is filled with fun, games, and many outdoor activities.

Buckley Camp this past summer was a blast. The campers and the staff all had a good time. A  highlight of the summer was when it was superhero day at camp.  Mr. Roby Young came, and the campers gave him a shield and cape. Another highlight was the game show. Everyone could participate in either the brain challenge or physical challenge.

Andrew Mazza: Grade 5

The Mid-Island Y Jewish Community Center (JCC) is an organization that includes the Long Island Poets, which holds a contest each spring for adults, teens, and children. The contest is funded by Poets & Writers, Inc., with public funds from the New York State Council Of The Arts. The 5th and 6th graders wrote poems and submitted them to the organization. Buckley had several winners! They are:

Harrison DellaVecchia and Jack Davis: Grade 5

The 5th grade Entrepreneur Fair took place on Wednesday, May 15, as part of the students’ overall investigation of financial literacy. The 5th graders developed original products and then marketed them to the school community with jingles, logos, and clever packaging.
