When walking past the main entrance of Buckley, many families constantly see charitable boxes perched on a foyer table. They often are curious to know what these charities represent and how they can contribute. When rushing to cars or class, however, they might find it difficult to stop and inquire.
Here are answers to the questions about each of the exciting initiatives that Buckley students have started to help those in their communities. They all respond to the one simple question. “If you had one sentence to describe your charity, what would it be?”

Q: Please explain the Peace Initiative and the Ambassador School for Peace. How did peace building start at Buckley? How did Buckley’s Upper School students take part in the peace initiative?”

At 10:00 a.m. on March 22, 2016, and at 7:00 p.m. on March 23, 2016, the 8th-graders presented their production of Mary Poppins in the auditorium. Behind the scenes, rehearsals were intense and exciting.

Q: Why do you love English?
A: I’ve always loved English since I was very little. I love reading. I love writing, and I love how English helps you deal with everyday life.
Q: What’s your favorite part about teaching?
A: Getting to know my students and helping others really understand and realize the joy of reading.
S. Maxwell Brown: Grade 7
The seventh-grade class of Buckley Country Day School is artistic in many ways. Mrs. Jennifer Demopoulos, the art and dance teacher, is teaching the seventh-grade about self-portraits. She is, however, teaching the students a different way of interpreting self-portraits. Mrs. Demopoulos specifically instructed the students to include certain things they like or things that have deeper meaning behind them. Many students internalized her idea of creating self-portraits and made it their own.

Q: Why do you love math?
A: I love math because there’s definitely a solution and there’s many ways to arrive at that solution. I also like that I’m good at it. Haha!
Q: What’s your favorite part of teaching?
A: That I get to learn from students everyday. I see ideas that I didn’t even consider or think about, and I also love that I get to shape the future. I see it everyday with my own eyes. I get to see student’s success everyday. I also feel like when they finish a problem they feel like, “Oh, I can do it now!”
